G & C
Plumbing & Angies Sewing Centre Monthly Voucher.
28
Players played the last official round for the year at the
Innisfail Golf Club. The Men played the monthly voucher sponsored
by G. & C. Plumbing, and the Ladies played for the Angies
Sewing Centre Voucher.
The
course looked great, even though we had some temporary greens.
The reason for this is that we were lucky enough to gain
a grant for the re-turfing of the greens and that work started
on Wednesday 25th November. If we continue to get favorable
weather the new greens should be all laid in the next week
or two and be playing on them by opening day 2010.
The
winners for the day in the Ladies was Rhonda Bliss with 82 – 17 – 65.
Well done Rhonda on a very good round. Next was Estelle Kopp
with 87 – 19 – 68.
With the temporary greens it was harder to get the ball to
stay on the greens, and that was the reason that none of
the ladies were able to get any of the nearest the pins on
#2 and # 17.
The
winners in the Mens was Graeme Wimberley with a very good
score of 88 – 23 – 65.
well done on a great round Graeme. Next in line was Jason
Swain with 80 – 14 – 66
who beat Darryl Gould 91 – 25 – 66 on countback.
Handicapper David Lee was next with a 83 – 16 – 67,
followed by Daryl Wall and John Lombardi both with 78 – 10 – 68.
Next was Tom Wikander with 81 – 11 – 70
The
nearest the pins on #7 & # 8 was won by John Tissizis, #1 or
#10 was won by Daryl Wall. #3 or #12 was won by Arthur Rogers.
The Pro Pin on #11 was won by Daryl Wall.
The
Impy Tavern Beers Nest on #18 did not go off for the year.
Rhonda Bliss was very close when she finished 70cms from
the hole. Great shot Rhonda. The Eagles Nest didn’t
go off either, so we will be starting the 2010 season with
a few balls in the nest.
As
my year as Club Captain has come to an end, let me publicly
thank all the sponsors we had this year. Without these wonderful
businesses and individuals we would not be playing for the
great prizes we were this year. Hopefully we will see you
all at the sponsors golf day on December 12th. And you are
quite welcome to stay for the presentation night starting
at 7.30pm where we will be handing over all the major trophies
played for this year. And please, we would like to see all
these sponsors return next year.
Thankyou
and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Phil
Otto, out…….

K.F.C. Cup,
A.G.M. & Presentation Night.
Round
5 of the KFC Cup stableford competition begun under cloudy
skies on Saturday 21st November. 28 players braved the conditions,
until it rained about halfway through the round. A number
pulled out and didn’t complete their rounds.
The
winner was a brave Arthur Rogers with 38 points, followed
by Troy Kopp on 37. Next was brothers Daryl on 36 and Alan
Gould on 35. The only one of the Goulds to miss on getting
in the run down was Brett. Next in line was Andrew Rose on
34. He beat Lance Doyle on countback. Peter Carter was next
with 33 points.
Also
held was the final of the Imperial Tavern Monthly Medal competition.
The winner was Andrew Rose who shot 76 - 4 -72. Andrew beat
greenkeeper Lance Doyle on countback. Lance recorded 81-9-72.
The
ladies played the Patsi Brown trophy. The winner was Nerida
Lee on 32 points. Runner up was Pat Burton on 29 points.
The
winners of the nearest the pins were as follows: #2 ladies
Nerida Lee, mens’ David
Lee; #4 Tom Wikander, who also won the pin shot on #7. The
Eagles Nest or the Impy Tavern Beers Nest did not go off
this week.
Next
week is the last week of competition before the greens get
renovated, weather permitting, and is the G&C Plumbing Monthly Voucher. So if you want to win one
of these, you only have this week to do it. Also this will
be the last week to get inside 50cm mark to win the Beers
Nest on the 18th hole only. So come and give it a go.
The
ladies will also be playing 18 stroke for the Angies Sewing
Centre trophy.
This Sunday
29th is the A.G.M. at 9.30am in the Clubhouse, so come and
have a say in selecting the committee for your club.
If you would
like to attend the Presentation night on December 12th at 7.30pm,
please give names to Phil Otto or Patsi Brown so we can organise
catering. The cost is $10 per head and kids will be free. Come
along and share in the presentation of the major trophies for
the year and celebrate the losing of yet another successful
years competition.

The
winners were Captains Courageous on 37 nett. This team consisted
of Phil Otto, Karsten Schimkat and Richard Rogers. Next was
The Turtles who narrowly beat Roy’s Ramblers on countback. Both
finished on 38. Fourth was Ravenshoe Ravers on 40. Following

46 and the Trans North Saints on 52.
Also
held was the crowing of Mr & Mrs Movember 2009. The winners of these prestigious
events was Jason Swain as the new Mr Movember and Sandy Cullen
as Mrs Movember.
Innisfail
Golf Club would lie to thank the following sponsors for their
support of this important event: Paradise Palms Resort & Country Club, Roscoes Piazza,
River N Reef Tackle and Bait, Babinda Munro Theatre, Imperial
Tavern, Cellarbrations, Murdering Point Winery, Overflow,
Innisfail Plumbing and Paint, Paronella Park, Raebon Trophies,
Cheryl-lee Florist & Bridal, Innisfail Camera Supplies,
A&A Realty, Mamu Canopy Walk, Kalinda Rose.
As
Captain of the club, I would personally like to thank those
companies and also thank Desley Barrrow and all the people
associated with Healthier Great Green Way, for all their
help in organising this event. Also Patsi Brown, and Arthur
Rogers for all their help on the day. The day was a great
success and raised $1,040 for Men’s health.
A
barbecue was also held to help raise funds for the Australian
Air Force Cadets’ trip
to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Sydney next year. With
the help of Sue Otto, Brendon Otto and Tian McKenna they
were able to raise $100.
Hopefully
we will be able to run a bigger and better day next year
and make it an annual event.

Stalwarts
take honours.
Saturday saw
the 4BBB stableford taken out by two of the old hands of
the course. Maurie Jarrott and Lance Doyle won over a field
23 strong with 48 points.
The
competition saw competitors line up in the best ball competition. The
field followed behind very closely with Arthur Rogers and
Trent Mann only 1 point behind on 47 points. Following them
was Naiade Zangrande and Pam Anderson on 46 points. 3rd place
was decided by countback from Graeme Wimberley and Greg Stowe
also on 46 points. 5th and 6th was also decided on countback
with Daryl Wall and Peter Birchley getting one over Estelle
Kopp and Desley Kann both on 44 points.
The
nearest to the pin were won as follows: #2 Pam Anderson,
#7 Alan Gould, #12 Mary Wimberley, #16 Richard Rogers, #17
Alan Gould and the pro pin #11 won by Daryl Wall. Yet again
the eagles nest and the beers nest were not claimed which
means that the beers nest is just getting bigger and bigger
for the lucky person that is going to claim it.
Next
week sees the Currajah Hotel Monthly voucher up for grabs
on the Saturday then on the Sunday is the PCYC Charity day
event, which I’m
sure, will be heaps of fun.
Don’t
forget that the AGM will be coming up very soon on November
29th so if you have any issues that you want to raise with
the club please come down and express them.

Kopp ‘n’ Cook
succeed in pairs comp.
17
pairs turned up on Saturday for the Drummond Golf Mixed Foursome
Championship with each group having to have a male and female
member of the club competing. Champions for the day were
Troy Kopp and Robyn Cook hitting a 78. Coming runner up was
Pam and Graeme Anderson with an 83 other than this the rest
of the field was quite a few strokes back.
The
way the foursome runs is an average is found between the
two handicaps between the two people. This made some of the
nett scores quite interesting. Leanne and Karsten Schimkat
came in first with 87-19-68, runner up and missing out by
only half a shot is Desley Kann and Joe James with 68 ½, 3rd was Ruth Dodds and Arthur Rogers with
69. The
next 3 places are a tie with Pam and Graeme Anderson, Glynis
and Jeff Mcgrath and Pat Burton and Richard Rogers all coming
in with a 70.
The
nearest to the pin winners were, #2 Pat Burton and Richard
Rogers, #7 Debra Smith and John Lombardi, #10 David and Nerida
Lee, #17 Robyn Cook and Troy Kopp. No one got the 13th and
the Eagles nest also did not go off. The Beers nest has not
gone off all year and has weighed up a pretty big bounty
now for the person that gets it. Winner of the pro pin was
Cindy and Daryl Wall.
This Saturday sees
the 4 ball best ball Stableford for the men and the Cr Ian Rule Trophy
for the women. Hope to see you there early to then go to the
annual race day next door afterwards.

Veteran comes
out on top.
Veteran
golfer Alan Kopp took the rest of the field by one shot gaining
the Imperial Hotel’s
Monthly Medal this month. Alan a local C grader fought off
a barrage of A graders who were looking for the victory.
Kopp
succeeded with 90-26-64. The A graders who followed him and
were extremely close to the lead were Trent Mann 74-9-65,
John Tissizis 75-10-65, John Lombardi 76-10-66 and Peter
Birchley 75-9-66. The men were met with dry condition as
it has been unseasonably dry over the last couple of weeks
and has led to the course being hard with a lot of run.
A
slew of B and C graders took some of the next positions and
showed that many had stood up to fight the heat and the dust.
John McKaskill 86-19-67, Rich Rogers 80-13-67, Wayne Toy
79-12-67 and Robert Harker 78-11-67 showed that not only
the A graders came out with good game on Saturday.
The
nearest to the pin competition had something quite rare happen.
Someone different won each pin. The eagles nest and beers
nest both did not go off and the beers nest is filling up
nicely for the Christmas season so someone can win it and
shout the club some nice chrissy drinks.
#1
Troy Kopp, #4 Andrew Ghietti, #7 Phil Otto, #11 Men’s- David Lee, Women’s-
Rhonda Bliss and the pro pin by Karsten Schimkat.
Speaking
of Schimkat the ladies winner in the Roscoes Piazza Monthly
Medal was Leanne Schimkat with 97-28-69, with runner up Dell
Steve getting 92-22-70, coming in third was Estelle Kopp
91-20-71 and Sue Morrison 87-15-72.
The
Otto family sponsored 18 holes alternate shot that was meant
to be on last Sunday has now been postponed to a later date,
keep looking at this space to see when.
Good
luck to all our guys going to Cairns for the Wargent Match
play competition against the Cairns Golf Club. Lets hope
that we can worry more about the game and less about the
hydration that is needed around the course.

This week saw 2 different
competitions with Vandeleur and Todd Monthly voucher being played
on the Saturday and the Annual Wargent/Anderson Challenge being

Congratulations
to Arthur Rogers and Naiade Zangrande who won a very dusty
and hazy competition on the Saturday with the recent dust
storm coming through. Ladies runner up was Deb Smith who
scored 41 points, Naiade scored 42.
While
the ladies were playing a stableford the men were in a stroke
competition. The run down of the men goes as follows: A.

78-12-66, W Toy 78-12-66, B Burke 88-21-67, J Lombardi 78-10-68,

are as follows: #11 A. Alman, #16 J. Logan, #2 S. Valente,
#7 J. Hills, #10 R. Rogers and the pro pin by Phil Otto.
Amazingly
the beers nest has still not gone off with nearly 18 cartons
up for grabs now thanks to the Imperial Tavern.
Sunday
was the first round of the annual Wargent/Anderson challenge
between Innisfail Golf Club and Cairns Golf Club. After a
tight struggle, Cairns prevailed winning 10 games to 8. The
return match is 18th October for tee off at 7.30am. Be at the
club by 5.45 am, bus leaves 6am to all of those involved.
Congratulations
to the C grade horses ass David Swaine and the bin boys for the
bus trip to Cairns, Mal Clifford and Peter Birchley.
The return
match is on the 18th October. Tee off is 7.30am. Be at the
clubhouse before 5.45am, bus leaves at 6.00am.

KFC cup benefits
veterans.
Saturday
saw round 4 of the KFC cup with some of the loyal players
benefiting. The round saw 34 players in the running and Keith
Marshall as victor with 40 points on stableford. Keith only
just scraped in with Peter Birchley and Steve Valente getting
second and third place respectively on countback. Fourth
place was John Logan with 39 points and fifth Arthur Rogers
with 38points.
This
was a very close competition with the first 5 places coming
within 3 points of each other shows the level of competition
in the club and how the competition has been nurtured under
the watchful eye of club captain Phil Otto.
A
very special mention to “gun” golfer
Maurie Jarrot who got every golfers dream, a hole in one
on the 119m par 3 hole #2. Congratulations to Maurie from
everyone at the club who are extremely jealous of your
good luck.
The
Ladies competition saw Pat Burton with 38 points on countback
to Robin Cook. Rhonda Bliss came in third with 37 points
from Deb Smith on countback also with 37 points. Thursday’s competition saw Naiada Zangrande
with 91/67 win the Innisfail Tyre and Brake Monthly Medal
Trophy. Runner up was Anne Alman 98/68. A big thanks to
Innisfail Tyre and Brake for all of their support to the
golf club.
The
nearest to the pin winners on the Saturday were #4 A. Rose,
#6 C. Sultana, #10 T. Mann, #12&14
T. Kopp Pro pin G. Stowe.
Next
week sees the Vadeleur & Todd
Monthly Voucher. We would like to thank Vandeleur & Todd
for all of their support, they are one of the companies
that help us every year.
A
quick mention to D. Steve and C. Wall who were left out of
the report for the club championship with Dell winning the
B grade championship; congratulations.

JOHN
COLE TOYOTA INNISFAIL GOLF OPEN.
Overcast and breezy conditions
greeted the field of 64 for the 2009 John Cole Toyota Innisfail
Open. With over 30 visitors form clubs such as Mareeba, Gordonvale,
El Arish, Pardise Palms, Atherton, Cardwell, Willows in Townsville,
Cairns, and Wondai Golf Clubs a fight to claim bragging rights
was expected by the locals.
The

see you next year to defend the Open title. Runner up was
another Mareeba man, Lui DeZen who shot 73.
The
overall nett champion for this year is local stalwart Alan
Scott who fired a great 86. What makes this so good for Scotty
is that he was off 26, and that equals a great 63 nett. It
is even more special when considering his age he nearly shot
his age. Well done Scotty from all at the golf club. So if
you see “young” Scotty around the traps, give
him a pat on the back.

Sunday saw 16 pairs play for
the John Cole Toyota 4BBB stableford. Weather looked like

the course needs it.

With
over 130 players playing the 3 days it was a very successful
weekend for our small club. Well done to all who helped make
the weekend a great success. Without this small band of volunteers
it would not have been such a success. The Innisfail Golf
Club would like to thank Mr John Cole and Mr Craig Boase
from John Cole Toyota, and Mark and Judy Evans form Paronella
Park for their continued support of this major event for
the club. If not for these supporters, these events would
not possible, so from evry one at the golf club a big thank
you. We would also like to thank Lance Doyle our greenkeeper,
for having the course in such great condition. Well done
Lance.

Lee and Doyle
Medal Winners.
Saturday
saw 39 players vie for the Imperial Tavern Monthly Medal.
Beautiful sunny weather greeted the players and with the
conditions dry a lot of run on the course was expected. So
scores were expected to be better than they have been for
the last couple of weeks.
The
ladies winner was Nerida Lee with a very good 86-18-68, followed
by Leanne Schimkat with an equally good 98-28-70. Next in
line was the new Ladies A Grade champion Debra Smith 84-13-71
who finished ahead of Glynis McGrath 88-17-71 on count back.
The
Men’s
winner was our esteemed greenkeeper Lance Doyle who shot
a very good 72 which is just 2 over par. It probably should
have been better. Lance was standing on the tee on the 17th
at 1 under par and looking at shooting a very, very good
69. Off a handicap of 9, that would have been a stunning
score. Unfortunately he walked off the 17th with a 7, so
still a 72-9-63 was the end result. Runner-up Tom Wikander
had an equally good round of 76-11-65. Tom’s score
on most other days would have been the winner but unfortunately
he ran into a red hot Lance.
Next
in line were two of our early morning players, Keith Wilcox
77-11-66 and Brian McElhinhey 86-20-66. It is good to see
Brian back from his hiatus and we should be seeing more of
him. Next in line was Club Captain Phil Otto 80-13-67. He
got his round off to a good start, birdying the 1st, paring
the 2nd and just missing a birdie on the 3rd. The ball finished
on the edge of the hole. Next was a visitor, Paul Anderson
with 78-10-68 followed by our Club Handicapper David Lee
88-17-71.
The
Nearest the Pins were as follows: Ladies #2 Glynis McGrath,
Members #1 Phil Otto, #7 Alan Scott, #12 Keith Wilcox, #15
Barry Scott and the Pro Pin on #11 Lance Doyle. The Eagles
Nest on #5 or #14 didn’t go off. The Beer’s Nest on #18 also
did not go off. The Club would like to thank the Imperial
Tavern for sponsoring the Beer’s Nest and the day’s
event. The beer’s nest now stands at 11 cartons.
The
Ladies will be playing an 18H Stableford event on Thursday
10th September sponsored by Mrs Mary Wimberley.
The
Club’s
next major event is on this Friday 11th September with the
Ladies playing the Paronella Park Open with a progressive
draw being held from 9.30am. Cost is $20.00. This includes
sandwich for lunch, tea and coffee and finger food. We appreciate
the valued support provided by Paronella Park, Queensland’s
#1 place to visit.
Saturday
will be the Men’s John
Cole Toyota Innisfail Open. It will be 18H Stroke. Sunday
will be a Medley 4BBB Stableford. Timesheets for Saturday
and Sunday are up in the Clubhouse. For bookings, phone the
Club on 40612223 after midday on Wednesday and Friday if
you would like to nominate. Cost for each day is $20.00 including
sandwich and tea and coffee.
The
Ladies’ and Men’s
events are open to all who have a valid AGU handicap.
The
Innisfail Golf Club values all major sponsors of this weekend.
John Cole Toyota, Innisfail and Atherton. Thank You to Mr
Cole for his continued support of the Club. It is greatly
appreciated. Thanks also to Paronella Park for their continuing
support. We hope to see them supporting the Club into the
future.
This
has been Carnegie Clark filling in for our regular publicity
officer Mr Anthony Holt who should be back writing and informing
next week.

Championships
quite the hit.
The
Innisfail championships closed without a hitch on Sunday
with all grades getting outright winners. Congratulations
to Andrew Rose and Deb Smith who were male and female club
champions.
Rose
72-77-74-69-292 took the lead on the third day after Troy
Kopp had a 1 shot lead coming into the second weekend. Kopp
did not only have to look out for Rose but also Darryl Wall
and Tom Wikander who both pulled in respectable rounds on
the first weekend.
But
the second weekend saw something different with Rose taking
the lead early with a 74 on the Saturday. The Saturday saw
one more addition to the top with Trent Mann getting a 76
in a round where every birdie was equalled with a bogie on
the next hole. Rose put the nail into the coffin on the Sunday
when he scored a 1 under 69 to take the championship.
The
ladies competition saw a battle between Deb Smith, Sue Morrison
and Robyn Cook with all ladies close to each other at the
end of the first weekend. By the next Saturday there were
two in the race for the championship with Smith and Morrison
only 4 shots apart. Smith can be forgiven for having some
nerves in the run home when she hit a 93 and Morrison hitting
a 90. This meant that Smith had won the championship by only
1 shot.
B
grade men’s competition saw Jamie Best come
out cracking with a 78 on the first day and no one within
3 shots of him. Best was able to continue his good form with
85 on the Sunday. The second weekend saw quite a field going
after him and putting the pressure on to see if he would
crack. Rich Rogers pulled out a 79 and David Swaine and David
Lee both hitting 80.
This
led to the final pairing looking quite determined to topple
Best at the top. Rogers pulled out a 39 on the first nine
and it looked at that point that he might have been able
to pull off an underdog comeback. But a consistent Best cracked
another 85 to give him the win by 3 shots to Rogers. Unfortunately
Lee and Swaine fell short hitting a 92 and 94 respectively.
Congratulations
to Arthur Rogers for winning the C grade championship by
an amazing 13 shots to a late charge by Tony Logue.
Club
captain Phil Otto was very impressed with the event and thanked
everyone who competed. He also mentioned that the weather
really showed how great playing golf in the FNQ can be.

Club Championship looking good.
Missing the last couple of weeks reporting has not stopped all of the guys from playing some outstanding golf. Last week saw the Innisfail Chemex 18 hole stroke competition. Congratulations to Rich Rogers 77-16-61 blowing the rest of the field away with an outstanding effort.
Behind were Jack Hills 76-12-64 on countback to Des King 73-9-64 and 4th going to John Logan 82-15-67. Winner for the ladies was Desley Kann 96-30-66.
Nearest to the pin were won by #1 Ian McDonald, #4 Wayne Toy, #8 Rich Rogers, #3 Greg Stowe with the ladies won by #2 Robyn Cook, #11 Pro Pin Mary Wimberley.
Today sees the start of the 72 hole club championship. This hotly contested event has all of the members from the club lining up to play. The first 2 rounds are played this Saturday and Sunday with the following weekend the finish. The event is a gross event which means that handicaps do not matter.
On that note it is hard to pass Andrew Rose winning this event. Andrew has been playing some fantastic golf of late and it will be hard for the rest of the competition to get close. This will be an enduring event and will be interesting who comes up victor in the B and C grades as well.

Doyle and
Rose clean up the foursome championships.
There
was a big turnout on Saturday at the Vandeleur and Todd foursome
championships. Congratulations go to Lance Doyle and Andrew
Rose who won the day on 78. Rose and Doyle played exceptionally
well on the day working well together to get the win.
Coming
in second and very closely as well was Trent Mann and Phil
Otto who were grouped with Doyle and Rose. Mann and Otto
pulled out a 79 which led to quite an interesting show with
the first two places playing off against each other.
Coming
in third was Alan Gould and Troy Kopp who just came in third
on the last hole where they lost through countback. All teams
were happy with the day which at the start looked like it
was going to be a washout but seemed to just get better and
better through the day.
The
women also played in the championship with Mary Wimberely
and Robyn Cook winning with 85, second place was Nerida Lee
and Desley Kann 92, with Dell Steve and Rhonda Bliss coming
in third.
The
nett winners for each were Nerida Lee/ Desley Kann 92-24-68
and Maurice Jarrott/ Graeme Wimberley 89-22-62.
The
nearest to the pin winner’s
were #1 Doyle/Rose, # Doyle/Rose, #2 Rhonda Bliss, #7 Doyle/Rose
and the Pro pin was won by Rhonda Bliss.
The
women’s
Thursday competition saw the 4KZ trophy vs par competition
go to Nerida Lee with +2, followed by Mary Wimberley, Ruth
Dodos and Cindy Wall who were all on +2 as well. Congratulation
to Rhonda Bliss who won both the nearest to the pin and the
eagles nest. The first eagles nest to go off in some time.

Fish Trophy
brings out the competitors.
Saturday
saw the Innisfail Fish Depot sponsor the men’s 18 hole vs. par competition.
Handicaps seemed to take over what was classed as an interesting
event.
The
winning “Burgular” was Mal “MALLO” Clifford
with a very good +8. He was off a handicap of 15, but club
handicapper David “BORN SHORT” Lee will, with
a very sharp knife, cut him. Runner up was Tony “GUS” Logue
with +6. He will also be cut sharply. 3rd was Allan “AL” Gould
also on + 6. Desmond “DESSY” King was next with
+5, followed by Tom “TOMMY” Wikander also with
+5. Next in line was Steven “STEVE” Valente +5,
and Jamie “NUGGET” Best and Peter “BIRCH” Birchley
on +4.
From
next week, 18/07/09, there will be no more timesheet and
we will be having a progressive draw for ALL members. There
will be only one competition running for ALL members, so
ladies and men will be all playing for the same prizes. This
was decided at the monthly committee meeting held on 09/07/09.
The competition next week is a monthly voucher co-sponsored
by VIBE SURF SPORT SKATE and SUSAN MORRISON. People should
start turning up between 11.30 and 12.00 on Saturday to find
out when they play.
We
need all players in the pairs Matchplay to have their 1st
round completed by 25/07/09 so the 2nd round can begin on
time, 26/07/09. So please get yourselves organised and have
them completed by then or their may be some forfeits or byes.
The
ladies Saturday competition saw the Innisfail Fish Depot
18 hole Stableford. Winner was Dell Steve with 44 points
from Susan Morrison with 42 points followed by Robyn Cook
with 40 points. The Nearest To the Pin on 2 or 11 was won
by Mary Wimberley. Well done ladies, good golf.

Monthly Medal
close call.
Saturday
saw another close monthly medal sponsored by the Imperial
Tavern with the first seven places having only six shots
between them. Winner for the day was a shocked Anthony Holt
hitting 90-28-62. He was extremely happy with his performance
on the day and attributed the success to the people he was
playing with.
Runner
up with and exceptional 72-9-63 was Craig Alman going through
the day at only 2 over is an amazing effort; he was followed
by Andrew Rose who also hit an amazing 69-4-65. Andrew has
been staying consistently at the top and does not seem like
he is going to budge, looks like it is going to be quite
a fight for the up coming club championship.
4th
was John Lombardi 75-9-66, 5th David Swaine 85-19-66, Vaughan
Smith 78-12-66 and Alan Gould 75-7-68. All players above

and some by quite a bit.
A
special mention goes to Brett Gould who has come back and
played his first game on Saturday hitting a valiant 75 nett.
Lets hope he keeps coming out.

to the pin was picked up again by Vaughan Smith, who must
have plenty of balls now after how many he has won, winning

you to the ‘LEGEND’ Lance Doyle for keeping the

KFC cup good
prelude to Harvey Norman Classic
Rick
Rogers made it two in a row this week by winning the KFC
Cup stableford. Rick scored 44 points to be the out right
leader on the weekend. M. Jarrott who came second on countback
to Graham Wimberley 3rd both on 42 points followed Rogers.
John
Lombardi came outright 4th with 41 points with Vaughn Smith
and Jamie best contesting 5th and 6th place respectively
on 38 points. Nearest to the pin were won by #3 Peter Birchley,
#7 Trent Mann and the Pro Pin Karsten Schimkat. #10, Eagles
nest and the Imperial Hotel Beers Nest did not go off. This
means there is still a bucket load of beer to be won.
A
special mention needs to go to newcomer Stuart Brenton whose
club choice on the 18th led to a very spectacular finish.
Stuart chose a club little to big for the distance he was
and decided to show the members sitting up on the balcony
his impression of the bombing of Darwin by hitting one on
the roof of the clubhouse. Maybe next time Stuart will think
twice before using that club at that distance.
The
ladies Thursday competition was a washout but Saturday saw
Debbie and Vaughn Smith Sponsored stableford doubles. Cindy
Wall and Glynis McGrath came in first with 46 points followed
by Nerida Lee and Deb Smith on 45 points. Coming in 3rd were
Susan Morrison and Robyn Cook on 43 points. Nearest to the
pins were won by #2 Glynis McGrath and #11 Dell Steve.
This
Saturday and Sunday sees the Harvey Norman Classic and with $2000
worth of prizes up for grabs we have big numbers coming out
to play. Some players to watch out for over the 36 hole,
2 day competition are:
Andrew Rose - Andrew has been out
lately due to match play commitments but is ready and waiting
to get out there on the weekend.
Trent Mann - Trent has been
away for a while due to work and has recently come back into
form. Definitely one to watch.
Keith Toy - Keith won a couple
of comps earlier in the year and will be waiting to break
the course record on one of the days.
Karsten Schimkat- Karsten
has had a great lead to the event and looks the goods for the
day.
Lance Doyle - although when asked Lance will tell you that
he is nothing special or that he wont be any good on the day
he will certainly be one to watch. Don’t be surprised if
Lance hovers around up at the top.
This
weekend will see a very interesting competition.

in the Currajah monthly medal on the weekend. Lance 74-10-64
won from Karsten Schimkat 74-10-64 and Dave Forster 88-24-64.
Three
way ties were the order of the day with the next three players
also drawing with Arthur Rogers 86-20-66 getting the honours
over Troy Kopp 73-7-66 and Greg Stowe 83-17-66.
Coming
in after them were John Logan 82-15-67 and Darryl Gould 92-25-67,
and finally coming ninth was Robert Harker with 78-10-68.
This is a sign of things to come with the Harvey Norman Classic
being so close it seems that everyone is hitting their form
for this major event. The classic is a 36 hole event running
over the 2 days of Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th, with $2000
worth of prizes to be won it will be good to see what happens.

2 of the KFC cup. This is an 18 hole stableford competition
with the person with the highest score over 5 rounds getting
the win.
Ladies
played both the Thursday and Saturday competition with Thursday
being the Imperial Tavern monthly medal. Congratulations
to Cindy Wall who was able to come out on top with 98-28-70.
She was followed by Pat Burton 100-28-72 and Dell Steve on
countback 98-26-72. Nearest to the pins were claimed by N.
Zangande #2 and Mary Wimberley #11.
Saturday
saw the ladies play for the Rhonda Bliss Trophy. Dell Steve
came out winner in the stableford competition on 43 points,
followed by Lois Touis 41 points on countback from Desley
Kann 41 points and Robin Cook with 40 points. Nearest to
the pin was won by #2 Robin Cook and #11 Pam Anderson.
This
Sunday there will be a working bee at the golf course at
8.00 am. To help the club with the way that it will look
on the following weekend for the Harvey Norman Classic, the
club is asking for all members and social players who enjoy
playing on the course and would like to see it in tip top
condition in the incoming weeks to come down and help out
with some of the beautifying chores needed around the place.
So come on down and join the friendly crew that will be attending
on the day.

a fantastic preparation for the up coming Harvey Norman Classic.
Mills was followed by a visitor from Mackay Trevor Lyons

with 73-8-65.
They
were followed by three players in 4th place Phil Otto 81-13-68,

Play off for
top spot.
The
Innisfail Tyre & Brake Aggregate
Championship was played on the weekend with the top 2 teams
having to play off on another day to separate them. Andrew
Rose and Karsten Schimkat will be playing off against Lance
Doyle and Craig Alman, both finished with a stroke score
of 153.
Andrew
has been playing some great golf lately and teamed up with
Karsten, who has been coming into his own in the last few
weeks, it would be obvious that they would be top of the
table. So it is good to see that Lance and Craig could give
them a run for their money. This will be quite an interesting
play off and will give everyone an inside look at how some
of the front runners will be going for the up coming Harvey
Norman Classic on the 27th and 28th June.
Others
that played well on the day were 3rd place Des King and Tom
Wikander with a 158, John Lombardi and Peter Birchley coming
4th with a 159 and Barry Scott and Mick Harker with a 159
as well.
Some
individual scores from the men include Des King 73-9-64,
Craig Alman 75-10-65, Steve Valente 76-10-66, Wayne Toy 79-12-67,
Lance Doyle 78-10-68, Peter Carter 83-15-68 and Phil Otto
81-13-68. It looks like there is quite a few people getting
ready for the impeding competitions and looking to their
best on the day.
The
nearest to the pin on the day went to Andrew Rose on holes
#4 and #8, Jack Hills on #16 and the pro pin going to Phil
Otto on #2. The Imperial Tavern Beers nest has still not
gone off and we are starting to get quite a large booty there.
A player in competition needs to get their 2nd shot on the
18th within 50cm of the hole. This has proved very elusive
to our members with plenty of them wanting to claim the prize
as many of them would be happy to get their hands on the
prize of 6 ½ cartons
of beer.
The
ladies Thursday competition saw the 4BBB stableford competing
for the Hensler Realty Trophy. Congratulations to Dell Steve
and Pat Burton who won with 47pts. Runners up were Robyn
Cook and Pam Anderson with 40pts. Pat Burton and Dell Steve
were also able to claim the nearest to the pin honours as
well.
Make
sure you come down on Sunday for the Bundaberg Rum pairs
match play that starts this Sunday. The more teams there
are the better. So come on down and have a swing.

Best debut
for Best.
The
standard of golf matched the beautiful conditions that greeted
all players last Saturday for the Ron & Dan Butchery Stroke Competition. While the usual
suspects enjoyed the sunshine out on the course, it was one
of our newest members who took the honours. Jamie Best shot
88-26-62 in a stunning debut performance. The question now
is, can he continue the form after an inevitable improvement
in handicap?
There
were plenty of players hot on the heels of Best with Craig
Alman shooting 74-11-63 to be runner up, with Phil Otto 79-15-64
coming third on a count back from Karsten Schimkat 75-11-64.
Course leader Andrew Rose came in 5th with 69-4-65. Andrew
continues to shoot very low numbers displaying outstanding
consistency. One has to wonder how long the course record
of 68 will last.
The
nearest to the pin honours were shared around quite a bit
this week with #1 going to David Lee, #4 to John Lombardi,
#7 and #16 going to Graeme Anderson and the pro pin going
to another newcomer in Stuart Brenton who also had some special
moments on course on Saturday.
There
was a bonus competition in play on Saturday with the longest
drive being rewarded to each grade on the 18th hole. Players
needed to hit it long while landing it on the fairway. The
players who achieved that best were Andrew Rose (A Grade),
Phil Otto (B Grade) and Allan Kopp (C Grade).
In
the ladies competition, played on both Thursday and Saturday,
Estelle Kopp displayed great consistency to beat the field
on both days. Estelle hit 87-20-67 on Thursday and backed
up with an 89- 19-70 on Saturday. Even being cut did not
seem to phase her as she was able to win on the Saturday
from Nerida Lee, who was second on a count back 89-19-70
from Dell Steve 96-26-70. Rhonda Bliss 87-19-68 and Robin
Cook 87-19-68 were both awarded runners up on Thursday. Estelle
picked up both of the nearest to the pins on Thursday alas.
Next
week sees the Innisfail Tyre and Brake aggregate championship
so men and ladies need to grab a partner to enjoy a great
days golf. Men, you need to find a partner and get practising
for the Pairs Matchplay coming up on the 7th June. And with
some of the low scores being shot of late, the practise will
be much needed.

Newcomer makes
his mark.
Richard
Rogers made himself known in the club on the weekend by winning
the competition and setting himself up for the C grade title.
Richard had a respectable first round score of 80-20-60.
He
was followed by Jack Hills 76-12-64 coming in second on
a count back from Steve Valente 75-11-64. They were then
followed by Greg Stowe coming in 4th 83-18-65 and Craig Alman
5th 77-11-66.
The
nearest to the pin was won only on the 7th and 11th holes
with Keith Wilcox and Craig Alman winning these respectively.
Also Jeff McGrath came through with the pro pin.
Next
week is an 18 hole stroke event sponsored by Ron and Dan’s Butchery.
The
ladies were a wash out on Saturday but were able to play
on Thursday. The competition was sponsored by Oliveiri’s Deli and was the Monthly
Medal. Congratulations to Dell Steve who won with 98-26-72
she was followed up by Robin Cook on count back from Pat
Burton.
Congratulations
also to Rhonda Bliss who got both of the nearest to the pins. Special
mention to Mary Wimberley who landed an eagle 2 on the 16th
hole par 4.
We
have the pairs match play coming up on Sunday 7th June this
means that if you want to get your name in you have to do
it over the next 2 weeks. We need at least 16 teams to make
it worthwhile.

Looking at
golf for the year.
The
golf was rained out this week so instead I have decided to
let you all know about what is coming up in the year for
golf.
Each
month we have a monthly medal, which is sponsored by the
Imperial Tavern. This is a stroke event that sees the winner
of the day gets to claim to be the best golfer in the club
for the month. This comes to an end on the last month when
all of the monthly medal winners play off against each other
for the prize of a yearly membership.
This
is then linked with the Innisfail Day & Night
Pharmacy Consistency trophy where your best 5 cards from
monthly medals are averaged out and the most consistent performer
wins.
Another
competition that we have at the club is the eclectic trophy.
This is to be played on all 18-hole singles competitions.
The player enters their score and their marker signs to confirm
and then the final score is calculated at the end of the
year. The player then has half of their handicap deducted
and the person with the best score wins. The prize for this
is a yearly membership.
A
competition that is coming close up is the Harvey Norman
Classic. This is a 36 hole nett event over two days on the
same weekend. With over $1000 worth of prizes up for grabs
it is a weekend not to be missed.
Another
comp going through the year is the KFC cup. These are 5 separate
18 hole stableford competitions throughout the year. The
cards are then added together and the player with the highest
points score is deemed the winner.
A
highly regarded competition that is coming up next month
is the Bundaberg Rum 4 ball Matchplay. This competition is
a great golf event where each team member must play well
for the team to survive. For this there is a $20 entry fee.
Finally
there is the club championship. This is happening in August
and goes over 4 days broken up into 2 weekends. This is the
definitive competition of the year and allows the winner
to claim the honours of club champion for the year. Also
there is a huge amount of prizes on offer as well.

Monthly medal
comes down to the wire.
Last
weeks monthly medal was yet again a closely and hotly contested
event. The Imperial Tavern Monthly Medal held on Saturday
brought out 35 of Innisfail’s
players with the top 9 players only being separated by a
4 shots.
Honours
went to Barry Scott who shot an amazing 72-7-65, he was then
followed by a huge line of players who all came so close
to becoming victor. These included Graeme Anderson 81-15-66
runner up, 3rd Craig Alman 78-11-67 on count back from Troy
Kopp 75-8-67.
Troy
and Craig have both been hovering around the top of the board
over the last couple of weeks and it looks like they will
both need some element of luck to get them past the post.
Here’s hoping that
things will run their way soon.
Coming
in 5th, 6th and 7th respectively were John Lombardi 77-9-68,
Steve Valente 79-11-68 and Peter Birchley 78-10-68.
Steve
Valente has been working hard with our juniors on a Sunday
and it is starting to pay off with a bit of a crowd coming
down at 3pm. With it only costing $5 to play it is a fantastic
way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
We
had a visitor from Tully come in 8th place Gerard Straatman
78-9-69, and finally Alan Scott coming in 9th with 91-22-69.
Alan has been playing for more years then he can remember
and it is good to see him coming up the table to give those
A graders a run for their money.
The
nearest to the pins honours went to Troy Kopp #3, Gerard
Straatman #10 & #13, Barry Scott #16 and the pro pin to Joe James.
Neither the eagle’s nest or the beers nest went off
this week and the Imperial Tavern sponsored beer nest is
now a whopping 6 and a half cartons.
The
ladies played the Goondi Hill Hotel sponsored monthly medal
this week with winner Glynis Mcgrath 86-20-66 also claiming
one of the nearest to the pin. Coming in second was Pam Anderson
79-12-67 and 3rd Rhonda Bliss 88-20-68. Nerida Lee also claimed
a nearest to the pin.
May
and June are to big lead up months for players to start getting
into real form. The 27th and 28th of June is the Harvey Norman
Classic and now is the time for many of our players to start
pulling some low numbers if they want to run against each
of the grade champions. Overall championship holder Andrew
Rose is looking forward to the event. He said he could not
wait to finish the match play so he could start getting ready
for the classic. And with the numbers that some of the players
are shooting this looks like it could be a close one.

Toy toying
with the rest.
Saturday
saw Keith Toy break the course record with a 67 and even
after doing this he did not win on the day.
Innisfail
Marine sponsored the 18 hole stableford on Saturday, which
saw P. Birchley take the victory with 42 points. He was followed
by a tie between J.James and G. Anderson who were both on
41 points, 2nd went to J. James on a count back. K. Toy
came in 4th place with 39 points, which when playing off
scratch is a fantastic effort. They were then followed by
T. Wikander, P.Carter and A. Gould all on 38 points.
Keith
also took honours on one of the nearest to the pin taking
out #3. P. Birchley took #8, G. Anderson took #16 and Wayne
Toy took out the pro pin on #11.
With
Keith now taking the course record it is up to club champion
Andrew Rose to see if he can stand up to the test and take
his record back. Andrew is playing off a handicap of 3 and
Keith, as said before, playing off scratch should mean an
interesting time in the upcoming events.
15
ladies also went out on Saturday to play for the Estelle
Kopp trophy. The stableford event saw G. McGrath come out
winner with 36 points. She was followed by M. Wimberley on
35 points, R. Cook and D. Kann battled it out for 3rd and
Cook came out on top after a count back. Congratulations
to D. Smith and N. Lee who both got the nearest to the pin
on the course.
Next
week sees the men’s monthly medal being played, sponsored
by the Imperial Tavern and the ladies monthly medal sponsored
by the Goondi Hotel.
Now
is a fantastic time to become a member of the club with our
special of green fees for the rest of the financial year
only costing $100. This gives you access to the course whenever
you want, an official Australian handicap and a chance to
get into the great game of golf either again or the first
time. So come on down and have a swing.

Competition
coming into full swing.
In
today’s column I will be
giving you the last two weeks results. Easter Saturday saw
26 of our men play a stableford competition for the North
Coast Machinery voucher. This was a close competition with
the course being quite heavy due to the torrential rain that
it had got over the last few days.
Tom
Wikander came out in front with 40 points fighting off 5
other players who were close behind. Second was Peter Carter
with 39 points. A tie for 3rd between John Lomabardi and
Jack Hills on 38 points followed by another tie for 4th with
Joe James and Phil Otto joining in as well.
Tom
also picked up the nearest to the pin on hole 4. He was not
the only one with Alan Gould and Jack Hills also picking
up nearest to the pin honours as well. Try Cooper picked
up the Pro pin for the day scoring a nice little bonus.
None
of the eagles nest went off this week. Our newest bonus,
the beer nest, has not gone off yet and by the looks of it
when it does whoever gets it is going to enjoy. The beer
nest is by the Imperial Tavern and involves people getting
their second shot on the 18th to come within 50cm of the
hole. The winner will score themselves 5 cartons of beer.
This starts at a 6 pack a week and accumulates from there.
So whomever it is that gets the nest will have a lot of friends
that week.
Last
Saturday saw The Innisfail Travelworld stroke competition
played. A field of 28 went out and yet again another close
competition with our first 8 players being within 3 shots
of each other.
Winner
for the day was D. Cooper 82-17- 65 nett. Coming in second
only on count back was J. Hills 79-13-66 beating S. Valente
77-11-66. They were then followed by the next 5 players all
on a 68. The placing went due to count back- C. Alman 78-11-68,
A. Rose 71-3-68, D. Wall 76-8-68, B. Scott 75-7-68 and G.Anderson
83-15-68.
Some
of the men mentioned above had the honour of also getting
a nearest the pin with B.Scott getting #1, J.Hills getting
#7 and C.Alman getting #17, also S. Valente picked up the
pro pin for the day.
Ladies
again had games called off through the week due to the wet.
But were able to play last Saturday in the Graphically Speaking
Stroke competition. Winner for the day was D. Steve 99-26-73,
2nd M. Wimberley 87-13-75 on count back from C. Wall 103-28-75.
Also
if you are interested in coming down to play membership at
the club has now gone down to only $100 until the end of
June. This gives you plenty of time to take advantage and
find out if golf is your sport. If you have any questions
just see Merv when you’re down there or speak to Phil
Otto club captain on 0408616572.

Beautiful
day for monthly medal.
Innisfail
golf club saw the Monthly medal played on the weekend sponsored
by the Imperial Tavern. The weekend also saw the running
of the monthly medal final for last year which was postponed
due to bad weather.
Congratulation
to Mat Tissizis who picked up all the prizes this weekend,
Mat won the monthly medal for last year by shooting a net
score of 62 which equated to an amazing 8 under. This also
meant that Mat won the Monthly medal for the month which
lines him up for the final again at the end of this year.
Mat was the man of the moment also winning the Eagles nest
on the 5th hole, so quite a little swag for the weekend.
Congratulations
also to Lance Doyle for collecting the pro pin on the 2nd
hole closest to the pin competition.
The
women were also competing in the monthly medal this week
and a big congratulations goes to Mary Wimberly who took
away the Imperial Tavern monthly medal prize.
The
last weekend was a great lead up to our opening week competition
sponsored by GolfWorld commencing this weekend. The competition
will run over the 2 days and if the line up that played last
weekend is anything to go by it will be a close weekend.
There weekend will be run by a draw so all you need to do
is turn up and wait to go out.
We
will also be running our demonstration days at the same time
so you will be able to come and see the latest in golf while
you are there. Remember that this is the best time to become
a member with fees until the end of the financial year only
costing $150. if you are interested then go to the course
and see the golf steward Merv all call club captain Phil
on 0408616572.
