Hi Members,

Last Saturday 20/5 saw a good field of 17 men play a Stableford sponsored by the Club.
Some very good scores came in, even though the greens were cut fairly high at 5 mm after the recent renovations.  They were very dewy and slow for the morning players.
The winner was Paul Tattam with 41 points on countback from Shane Parmenter.  Third was Al Gould with 39 points on countback from Keith Marshall.
Nearest Pins – 2/11 Pro Pin, 6/15, 8/17 & 9/18 – A Rose, 3/12 Beers Nest & 7/16 – A Singh, 4/13 – A Gould, 5/15 – J Cockle (New Member), 1/10 – Not won.
This Saturday is a Single Stableford sponsored by North Coast Machinery. Tee off from 7.30 am and from Midday.
Wednesday and Friday social comps are played every week with Tee off at 1pm and from 3 pm onwards. All are welcome.
In club news;
Peter Birchley broke his leg recently so I can’t guarantee the greens will be mowed every Saturday morning.
It will depend on my shifts and they will be cut on Friday arvo if I can’t do them on the Saturday morning.
President Des has had his knees replaced in the last week so we wish him well in his recovery.
Lombo is back on his new knees but still a few weeks away from playing.  The question is whether he will make the Championships to defend his title.
Our Club Championships are on 17,18 and 24, 25 of June.
The last two days are afternoon tee off only with a seeded draw for each grade.
The club has been successful in receiving a grant of about $33,000 from the GCBF to install air conditioning.
The Southern Vets are playing at Innisfail this Tuesday 30/5 with an 8 am tee off.
All golfers over 55 years are welcome to have a game.
We need volunteers to help with making sandwiches and running the bar so please call Andrew Rose on 0407616917 if you can help out, even if for only a few hours.
The course was recently renovated with thatching and top dressing with a finer sand than previous years.
Slow release fertiliser was also spread and the greens let to grow longer than normal.
They have come back beautifully and are probably the nicest surface we’ve had in years.
They are deceptively fast given the amount of grass on them.
Happy golfing.

In the run down a very close second was Ian Mcdonald with 42 points followed by Shane Trembath 40 points Daryl Wall (the B Grade Champions Coach and the champion  is currently in Cairns having his two Knees repaired in time to defend his title and we wish him all the best)next in the run down was Phil Otto and a big welcome back to him as well. Nearest to Pin shots went to 1/10 Paul Tattam who has been very consistent lately winning last weeks competition even after the handicappers took a big heap of strokes off him. Hole 2/11 the Pro Pin went to Mark Walker and its great to see Mark back on the course again 4/13 and 6/15 went to Alan Gould 5/14 Andrew Greives 7/16 Ian Saunderson 8/17 Stephen Todd 9/18 John Tissizis. Wednesday’s competition was won by Barry Adams with a good 22 points followed  by Keith Wilcox on 21 points . Friday ‘s winner was Arthur  Rogers 25 points followed by Ian McDonald on 16 points. Hi Golfers Members and Supporters

Another week of patchy weather goes by but golfing has managed to continue and it looks like much of the same for a while. Plenty of other clubs having open events and major competitions all over the north at the moment including us with the Harvey Norman Classic a must play competition. A great two days with  super prizes and tee times available now for Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of May .

Last week saw the Golf World Monthly Medal put out there with a good field vying for the trophy and the ever improving Paul Tattam taking the honours with an impressive 61 nett, following in the run down we had Shane Trembath 63 nett Daryl Wall (the B Grade Champions coach) 67 nett and John Tissizis 67 nett. Nearest to Pin Shots 2/11 Pro Pin and 3/12 the Crown Hotel Beers Nest went to Paul Tattam, 4/13 5/14 John Tissizis, 6/15 Trent Mann, 7/16 Luke Peters, 8/17 Aman Singh, 9/18 Shane Trembath. Apparently the scores of three of the winning Monthly Medal Group could have been a lot lower except when setting up the markers on number six tee someone hit off tee fifteen and low and behold so did the rest of them, there is an excuse for one of the players as he is now over sixty but the other two oops!. Wednesday competition was won by Paul Keenan with 22 points from John Tissizis 21 points and Jeff McGrath 20 points. This Saturday is a single stableford with early and midday tee off times available ,happy Golfing .
